CBB’s ICBG Organising Committee Delivers the Goods
Team CBB more than ably represented us in successfully planning and executing a meeting of ICBG delegates from regional central banks over the weekend of May 8-9, 2026. Successful outcomes included finalising important decisions while also ensuring that the visitors’ appetite was whetted for the social and cultural activities that have been part and parcel of the 4-day competition since its inception in 1987.
The gathering saw representatives of eleven (11) regional central banks join with our own CBB ICBG committee, with eight banks sending representatives to Barbados and three banks participating virtually.
Visiting delegates gave the organisers, led by Catrina Forde in her capacity as Head of the ICBG Secretariat, high marks in all categories of their weekend experience. Beyond the productive business sessions which led to agreement on which games will be featured in 2027, approval of the new logo, and a general strengthening of governance arrangements, time was allotted to touring the Wyndham Hotel plant, where the Games will be based, as well as visiting the Wildey Gymnasium and the BFA’s Astroturf where most of the disciplines are expected to be contested.
Each delegate received a swag kit with items bearing the new logo. Included in the kit were road tennis starter racquets and balls to enable the visitors to return home and begin learning this indigenous game. Having been treated to a spirited demonstration featuring none other than Governor Greenidge, CBB’s reigning road tennis champion, the visitors expressed their eagerness to embrace the new game and start sharpening their skills.
Next year’s Easter weekend will be jam-packed with activity and fun as delegates converge on Barbados from March 25-30th to jostle for trophies and bragging rights. Grand opening and closing parades, the usual cultural showcase featuring each delegation, and several parties and outings will be sandwiched between intense competition in nine disciplines: Basketball, Chess, Darts, Dominoes, Football, Netball, Road Tennis, Table Tennis and Volleyball.
Team CBB, take a bow as you have done us all proud and have inspired us all to rise to the occasion next Easter weekend, when the curtain is raised on the 14th edition of the competition.
